Facts About Bacs Software
Bacs is an acronym for the Bankers Automated Clearing Service. Established in 1968, It is one of the world’s largest clearing houses. Bacs is operated by the United Kingdom’s major banks and building societies and it is responsible for the processing of Direct Debits, Credits, Standing Orders and information advices.

If a company wants to use the Bacs system, it must hold an account with one of the sponsoring banks or building societies.

Over 40,000 companies are currently registered users of Bacs software systems in the UK, including all of the FTSE 100. In addition, more than 50,000 businesses submit to Bacs indirectly using commercial bureaus.

Bacs transfer replaces traditional paper-based methods of payment and collection such as cheques, and cash, with fast and accurate transactions at the touch of a button, dramatically reducing bank charges with savings of up to 80% over cheques and cash. Writing a cheque can end up costing several pounds, if you factor in bank charges, postage, and the time taken for staff procedures. Bacs software will reduce that cost to just a few pence per transaction. Add this saving to the increased security and ease of use, and you can see why over 100,000 businesses have made the switch to electronic payments using Bacs transfer.

interSoftware has been a leader in the Bacs software marketplace for over 20 years in and was closely involved with the development of the Bacstel-IP system. AzTech BACS-IP was the first package to be approved by Bacs Ltd under the BASS accreditation scheme in March 2003.
