ISCD Updates
Last Updated: 01/05/12
Your BACS-IP software uses the Industry Sort Code Database [ISCD] checking to validate sort codes. The software carries out the validation exercise to ensure that account details that are sent to BACS processing are not rejected at the point of processing, saving you both time and money. However, data input errors are not the only reason for rejection; it is common for bank account details to be valid and still be rejected by the BACS-IP software. The reason is that updates to the ISCD do not coincide with banks creating new account details. Therefore, genuine details are subsequently rejected – this usually means that you are required to upgrade your data sources. The following step-by-step instructions explain the process of upgrade; we recommend that an IT literate user completes this process.
Before starting the update process please check the version of BACS-IP you are using as *some steps are unnecessary for versions 3.2.412 and above.
To find out the version of your BACS-IP software:*
First click on this link to download the file.
And copy into C:\BacsIP from where you will need to unzip (extract) it. Then follow these steps:
1. Log in to BACS-IP with your usual username and password.
2. Click on Help in the menu bar at the top of the screen.
3. Select About in the Help menu, you should be presented with an About BACS dialog box which will display the version number (as below), note the last 3 digits..
4. If your version is 3.2.412 or above, please skip to step 6 below, ensuring first that you have exited the BACS-IP software, copying the update files to C:\BACSIP, otherwise please follow the instructions in full.
To find out where your database is held, you need to go to C:\BacsIP and locate a file in there called BACS.ini (If you can’t find this file, it may be shown, depending on your Windows settings, please have a look under the column Type for Configuration settings with View set to Details). Once you have located the BACS.ini file then open the it with Notepad in Windows by double-clicking (left mouse button) on it.
The second line of the BACS.ini identifies the location of your database DBPath=[drive]:\BacsIP. If this line reads C:\BacsIP then please skip to step 6 below.
5. If the database is not stored within C:\BacsIP, look in C:\BacsIP for the following 4 files: BIDB.exe, BIDB.fts, BIDB.hlp, and BACS.grx. These files need to be copied to the location of the Bacs database as versions before 3.2.412 do not support updating the BACS-IP database over a network.
6. Please Unzip the ISCD_20120301.zip file which has been downloaded to C:\BacsIP.
7. Once all the files are held in the correct location, double click on BIDB.exe in C:\BacsIP regardless of BACS-IP version, and then click OK.
8. On the Bidb window, click on:
9. The BIDB program will then offer you a browse option, browse to C:\BacsIP\ISCD_20120301\ the update files where the unzipped files were saved to, double click on ISCD_20120301.TXT. On the BIDB window, click OK. A warning window will appear, click YES.
10. You will then be required to enter a username and password for the BACS-IP software.
Click YES to the window (shown above) and this will begin the import.
WARNING, in very rare cases the following could take up to 2 hours to complete.
When the import has finished, the following message will appear: Click ‘OK’ then Click Cancel on the BIDB program, then Click Close.
The above figures are for illustration purposes only.
Upgrade success can be confirmed by logging into the BACS-IP software.
This can be found in System > Parameters >
Read. Note: The dates shown above are for reference only. The dates displayed in your software should correspond to the update you have downloaded e.g. 2012/03/01.
Ensure that both the ticks are present which confirms the settings for normal operation.
